URBAN REGENERATION PROJECT

The project for the Shoah Memorial in Bologna is located on an urban existent empty plaza, in a decayed part of the city.
It is conceived as a moment of involvement and reflexion for the citizens and the visitors, inviting them to stop and have a rest in a space where before people only passed by.
The Memorial is composed by a series of Cor-Ten pre-oxidized plates, that are positioned in order to catch the sight and the curiosity of the users towards the inside of the monument, with the purpose of inviting them to come closer and enter the monument.
The Cor-Ten elements open towards the city and towards the streets that surround the area of intervention.
In this way, those elements become the agents of Memory, static relics that foster a contact with the visitor who -by entering the monument- can read the engraved names of the Shoah victims on the Cor-Ten elements.
